This pretty tabby-and-white girl, complete with an adorable little beauty mark on her nose, came to us from Cedar Shade Trailer Park in Alfred. After being fed by campers and tourists, the park closed, leaving a small colony of cats with nowhere to go. Tootsie was one of them.
When she first arrived in our care, Tootsie was absolutely terrified. The world was a big, unfamiliar place, and she wasn’t sure that humans could be trusted. But slowly, patiently, and at her own pace, Tootsie has begun to show us that there is so much more to her story.
Today, she accepts pets. She responds to affection. She is beginning to understand that gentle hands can be kind and that she is safe. 🥹
These may seem like small things to some people, but for Tootsie, they are enormous milestones.
Tootsie is looking for someone special. She needs an adopter who truly understands shy and fearful cats and who will be patient, consistent, and gentle as she continues to build her confidence. She may never be the most outgoing cat in the room, and that’s okay. Her adopter will need to understand that trust cannot be rushed.
But it can be built.
Tootsie has already come so far. The terrified girl who once couldn’t imagine accepting human touch is now beginning to discover that affection can feel good. Somewhere out there is the person who will be willing to wait for the rest of her story and who will understand just how special it is when Tootsie finally chooses to come closer. 🤍
